Laser printers

Thermal printers

This type of printer uses heated pins to render the picture on the printing paper. Since these printers are low cost and do not uses ink as other printing presses do, thermal printers are extensively used in retail, fax, education, transportation, finance and computing machines.  

Plotter 

The plotter was developed by Remington Rand in the year 1953. The plotter is a hardware or a printer that is used to print vector graphics and for drawing continuous lines using a marker, pen or pencil.  

3D printers 

Developed by Chuck Hull in 1984, 3D printers are one of the best improvements made in the history of printers. The printer uses materials like plastics, metal alloys, foods and polymers and is used for many applications, including dentistry, aerospace engineering, biotechnology, archaeology and IT. You can even use a 3D printer to rebuild ancient archaeological artifacts that have been destroyed over time.  

LED printers 

Using a fuser system, drum and inks, LED printers prints black and white documents and works mostly like a laser printer. These printers were invented by manufacturer OKI in the year 1989. The main difference between LED printers and laser printers is that while the latter uses a laser and mirror to create a static charge for the printer, the former uses an ink tray of LEDs.  

Dot matrix printers 



The first dot matrix printer was created by Centronics in the year 1957. The printer works on the technology of hitting the ink band using print heads to form text and images by creating thousands of tiny dots.
